AdvaMed hosted The MedTech Conference 2026 in Boston over four days, October 18 through 21. More than 4,450 attendees from over 2,000 companies and 40 countries filled the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. As a result, organizers named this the largest MedTech Conference in history.
The program covered more than 20 topics, including AI, digital health, diagnostics, regulation, and global market access. Meanwhile, the Medtech Campus showcased start-up pitches, live demos, and patient stories alongside candid CEO conversations.
Kelleen Kaden represented Vistatec’s Life Sciences team throughout the week. She met with device manufacturers, regulatory leaders, and innovators to understand their content challenges. Here are the themes that stood out most for medtech teams with global ambitions.
AI Is Redefining What a Device Does
AI dominated conversations across sessions, keynotes, and the exhibit floor. Released alongside the conference, EY’s Pulse of the MedTech Industry report framed AI as reshaping devices themselves. Additionally, the report found intelligence increasingly built into devices and the care pathways around them.
However, deeper AI integration raises the stakes for oversight. AI governance featured on the official education agenda, and attendees discussed how to keep model behavior accountable. Vistatec’s AI Governance services help teams set those guardrails across every language and market.
Regulators Are Moving Toward Adaptive Oversight
Regulators brought a forward-looking message to Boston. The UK’s MHRA outlined its approach to AI-enabled devices, including more flexible lifecycle regulation. It also highlighted the AI Airlock, its regulatory sandbox, and expanded reliance routes with trusted regulators like the FDA.
Meanwhile, US manufacturers are adjusting to the FDA’s Quality Management System Regulation, which took effect in February 2026. Consequently, early QMSR lessons featured prominently on the regulatory agenda. A robust multilingual quality management framework keeps labeling and instructions for use consistent across all markets.
Global Expansion Depends on Harmonization
Global market access ran through the entire program. Sessions on global harmonization, MDR and IVDR, and emerging markets explored how companies can scale faster. Moreover, delegations from Ireland and Canada used the week to champion cross-border collaboration.
Each new market brings its own regulatory language, patient expectations, and labeling rules. Therefore, expansion plans succeed when content travels as smoothly as the devices themselves. Expert translation and localization help manufacturers enter new regions with compliant, culturally appropriate materials.
Fragmented Data Is Holding AI Back
Fragmented data appeared on the official education agenda, and the issue surfaced in many AI discussions. Real-world evidence also featured on the regulatory agenda alongside AI oversight. In short, medtech AI can only be as reliable as the data behind it.
Consequently, high-quality training data has become a strategic priority for device makers. Clinical language data requires careful labeling by people who understand medical context. Vistatec’s data annotation services deliver accurate, multilingual datasets that help medtech AI perform safely across populations.
Patients Are Influencing the Conversation
Patient voices stood out throughout the week. The Patient Pavilion and keynote patient stories kept the focus on real outcomes. Additionally, a panel on direct-to-patient engagement explored how companies can reach patients more effectively.
As devices move into homes and alternative care settings, patients interact with interfaces and instructions directly. For that reason, usability in every language becomes a patient safety issue. Thorough UX and language testing ensures that apps, screens, and guidance work clearly for each local user.
